We spent around 1 1/2 hours at the sanctuary. We then went to the play park opposite the sanctuary for half an hour.

At Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary and Buckfast Butterfly Farm, there were lots of butterflies to see inside the butterfly house, a few turtles in the ponds in the butterfly house and many otters outside in their enclosures. These otters are rescued, go through rehabiliation (over the course of 12 months) and are then released back into the wild once ready. There is also a gift shop which is otter and butterfly themed.

Our favourite part was seeing the otters during feeding time. These were at 11:30am, 2pm and 4pm. The otters loved coming up to the fencing to say hello to everyone.

There is plenty of parking available in a hard surface carpark. There is also disabled parking spaces available. Parking is free of charge.

While at the sanctuary, there was no where to purchase food on site, however outside of the sanctuary there is a drinks hut and plenty of picnic benches in the park opposite the sanctuary to have a picnic.

When we visited, our eldest was 3 1/2 years old and our youngest was 22 months. We found this day out had something for everyone, no matter your age.

There are no toilets at this attraction, however the train station next to the sanctuary has toilets available.

We didn't take the pushchair with us, however the pathways were flat so I don't believe we would have struggled getting around.

Overall, we would visit again if we were in the area. We loved the fact this day out was a sanctuary and we found the staff were excited about their work. The only let down we found was there being no toilets on site, therefore we have rated this day out 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
